The Class of 79

When did this story begin?... It began when three Rhodes University students realised that what was happening in South Africa’s so-called ‘separate development’ was wrong. And that they simply couldn’t tolerate it.

A defining moment for each sets them on a path of defiance and rebellion against the apartheid regime. As they stand to take their graduation photo as the ‘Class of ’79’ who would think or ever imagine that one would bomb a goverment building in six months time, the other be tortured and appear in the TRC hearings post-94, and the third would be arrested for possession of banned books and sentenced for four years in prison.
